Goals

Goals and Expectations

The goal of these classes is to learn to make music in an ensemble setting. We support and encourage each other in a light-hearted, informal atmosphere. Our goal is not perfection, but rather continual growth as musicians.

When you sign up for this class, you have made a commitment to yourself and to the rest of the ensemble. You have committed to attending all classes for the semester, to practicing at home (5 days a week at minimum), and to performing in the concert at the end of the semester. You have committed to behaving with kindness and respect.

As your teacher, I also commit to that same level of dedication and preparation, as well as treating each of you with kindness and respect.

Performances

We have 2 concerts each year - one at the end of each semester. The concert date will be finalized by the start of each semester. These concerts are free, so please invite all your friends and family!

Concert Dress

For concerts we dress nicely as a way to show that we are serious about our endeavors and to thank our audience for supporting us. We also dress in such a way that attention is drawn to our music, rather than our clothing.

When choosing concert clothing, think “business casual”

  • Shirts must have sleeves
  • Pants need to be nice - no shorts or cargo
  • Skirts/dresses cover knees when sitting
  • No flip-flops
  • Ties/suits are optional
  • When in doubt, wear all black
